Most companies will not pay for our standard tools for the simple fact that many of us wouldn't treat the tools with respect, or we would ask for new ones every time we forget them on the job, and our fellow employees may even take our tools claiming they're not really our tools but everyone's tools.

It just ends up costing the employer too much in the end. My company will cover the cost of tools that break, or in some rare cases they will cover a tool that disappeared by theft.

Most companies cover the costs of larger and more expensive tools and equipment, such as pipe threaders, reclaimers, larger hammer drills, and wear and tear items such as bits and blades used by these tools.

I've had some bad luck lately with losing certain tools and not having a clue what job I last used them on. I just started using the one key/ticks for tracking by Milwaukee on most of my expensive tools to show where I last used them. I'm pretty pleased with that so far.
