Full Time - effective immediately
Salary - $75,000 to $80,000 plus benefits

Georgina Trades Training Inc., a not-for-profit training organization based in the Town of Georgina, has been delivering a wide variety of industry-based training and certification programs since 2006. We are committed to providing innovative practical learning to assist individuals in securing employment and meeting the demands of the residential construction, job market. Georgina Trades Training Inc. is about to embark on an exciting new venture.

We will be offering an introductory, foundational skilled trades training program focused on the residential construction sector. Training will be offered in 5 non-regulated trades and 3 regulated trades in an authentic setting leading to expediting work placements and allowing candidates to acquire requisite skills to pursue further certification in the trades. This authentic learning and training environment will allow students to be engaged in the construction and completion of modular housing units. This is an exciting, new opportunity for a seasoned individual interested in transforming the way that training is provided.

The ideal candidate will have a solid knowledge and passion for the requirements for apprenticeship certification as well as a background in the residential construction sector.

Position Summary: Reporting to the Director of the Skilled Trades Institute, each of these 8 journeymen/instructors will be responsible for providing instruction to a maximum of 12 to 15 students in a combination of classroom and on-site settings. In addition, supported by a larger team, the journeyman/instructor will act as a mentor for the students to ensure successful completion of a 26-week program.

Key Responsibilities:

•Modify existing curriculum so that essential skills are delivered within a 26-week timeframe and are in compliance with existing training standards
•Adequately prepare for each class
•Assess student performance
•Supervise students during the practical application of skills learned – students will be engaged in constructing modular housing units to be sold
•Be a member of the Trades Advisory Council established by GTTI
•Work with other staff and directors to make sure all supplies, tools and curriculum are ordered for classes
•Control and monitor all inventory/tools/equipment used as a part of teaching classes
•Mentoring and guiding students through training
•Perform periodic building maintenance at training center facility as needed

Qualifications:

Education
•Certification in the designated trade
•Adult education certification is an asset
•Minimum five-seven years of residential construction experience

Knowledge/Skills

•Strong understanding of adult learning principles and the ability implement adult learning principles in the classroom
•Be a team player and possess attributes of flexibility in aiding to meet the needs of the council, contractors and director when it relates to training needs
•Have excellent verbal and written communication skills to professionally represent the organization
•Competent with Microsoft Office Programs: Word, Outlook, Excel and Power Point
•Ability to navigate the Internet
•Have strong and proven organizational and time management
•Have strong working knowledge of construction principals
•Demonstrate a passion for teaching and passing and promoting the skilled trades
•Teaching and/or training experience helpful
•Knowledge of Ontario Building Code and other pertinent legislation

Licenses & Certifications

•Industry certification in designated trade
•Valid Class ‘G’ license is an asset
•Health & Safety certification is preferred

Working Conditions

•Work is primarily indoors in an environmentally controlled climate
