having moved out to alberta from ontario almost 3 yrs ago and with close to 30 yrs experiance working the HVAC/R industry, work here isn't all that great. If your really young thats great, if your an older mechanic well.......
things have slowed down and the Plumbers union runs the A/C guys. plus they don't like to consider  local 787 cards.
And having a CMS designation with RSES out here doesn't mean a hill of beans to management or most service managers.
SO.... a word to those considering a move out here, research the company your going to work for, expect to pay bib bucks to rent or buy a place and have little work in the winter.

Being a jorneyman in Alberta and worked here all my life agree to the last comment to a certain extent. Yeah it has got brutally expensive out here but our pay is fairly decent also. I don't know what the J ticket rates are out there but I'm at 38/hr, and the union is about to close the deal in 2010 for a huge increase ( I'm not union). For the work side of things it's so busy that you can pick and choose your jobs or over quote the jobs that you don't want, then you still get them. I work on the commercial / industrial HVAC and business is booming.
