You need  a licensed mechanic to sign you up as an apprentice, and then write off your 4500 hrs and challenge the exam for $100.  You don't need to signup as an apprentice and then work 4500hrs.  The licensed mechanic can write off hours that you worked on A/C equipment prior to becoming an apprentice.

You have to call the Ministry to get the proper paperwork, and to book the exam.  The Ottawa office phone number is 613-731-7100.  Just tell them you need a residential air conditioning mechanic supervisor's assessment of skill sets document, and you need the competency analysis profile form, to be filled out by your employer.

Going to write the 313D Jan 14th in Hamilton. Anyone else write and what did you think of the exam and what are some pointers if any?

I think you're well prepared ;)

You'll have 3 hrs to go through all the questions, so there's plenty of time to come back to ones you can't answer right away.  Go throught he whole exam first, because some further questions will give you answers to previous ones, or help remind you what the answer is.  You need 94 out of 135 questions to get 70% and pass.  Make sure you have 100 right answers at least  :P

Good luck!

Thank you. All those questions from the 313D exam that I got off this site I went over so many times I almost new the answer before I finished reading the question. Great Help.

Wrote exam this morning.  Now going to spend the next couple weeks rushing home to the mailbox to get my mark.  I think that it went well.  I can tell you that no matter what my mark the practice exam stuff here definitely helped.  $20 well spent.

Received my test results Friday.  Passed at 81%.  Practice exam here was a great tool as I was usure of what to expect from the exam.  Was $20 I'm totally happy I spent.  Thanks!

Is 313D same as IP refrigeration and air condition mechanic exam quizs? How to donate this site to grant all questions and 2010 exam quiz are the same, too.
Thanks for your help.

I think if you score higher than 75% you're licensed in all provinces.

challanged the 313D exam July 9th, actually had my marks back on July 14, got 103/135 for 76%.  I really didn't need to write the test (I'm a 313A apprentice) but I wanted to see where  I stood, that and my boss wanted to give a 313d apprenticeship to another employee.  For all those  about to challenge the test, know your heat pump info,  it's all about heat pumps.  If don't have alot of service experience on HP's  ask your boss for more because  alot of the questions are scenarios about if a heat pump was giving you these sat temps and pressures, what would be the likely problem.  Good luck to all about to write.

Donated $20 for access to the private forum. Not the questions on the test I took but gave me a good feel for what was on the test. Money well spent! By the way 113/135, one hour taking the test. Its not very hard so don't stress over it.

I'm interested in taking the 313D test. I live in Mississauga, where's the closest place I can go to write the exam and how do i go about booking it?  I know I have to get the 4500 hours signed off too. Is there some sort of official document to get the hours signed off on?

Thanks for anyone with any answers for me

The list of MTCU offices in Ontario can be found - Here

I posted a scan of the instructions I had for anyone who wants to apply for the 313D certificate, without going through the Apprenticeship program.

You need a letter from your employer, on a company letterhead which give the company address, exact dates of employment, and number of hours worked.  Include the name of the certificate holder who is assessing you.  Your employer should have no problem crediting you with 4500 hours.  Your 313D certificate will benefit him as well.  No one in the MTCU will cross reference you record of employment.  Whether you were working under the table or not, if you have 4500 hours working on air conditioners, then you have every right to challenge the 313D exam.

The certificate holder and employer sign off on the residential air conditioning mechanic supervisor's assessment of skill sets document, and the competency analysis profile form.

Send that to the ministry and wait until they contact you with exam dates.

Okay great thanks for the help. I keep the board posted on the process if there's anything I can add.

Has anyone recently written the 313D exam? Is it still pretty similar to the practice questions provided on this forum?

Admin

I've heard they added alot of TXV and heat pump questions.  Good luck with the exam.
