furnace help
« on: November 17, 2009, 07:38:58 PM »
A relative's furnace does not want to shut off. the Tstat reaches temp but the furnace keeps running. burner doesnt turn off? I am hoping it is only high limit not shutting off gas valve and not the gas valve itself. Can anyone give ideas on costs to have it looked at? costs for new gas valve or high limit? The furnace is in Ontario.

thanks

i once seen a wire staple that was put threw the t-stat wire. making contact with the R and W wires .it made the furnace run constantly.

I would start at the thermostat.  Remove the W wire and see if the furnace still runs.  A high limit won't cause this problem, and a gas valve would be rare.  Is it a new thermostat?  What make is the furnace?
