getitng your G1 licence

i have had my g2 licence for 4 years now and i mainly work on residential equipment with the odd rooftop. how do i go about getting my g1 licence? would i have to sign up for an apprenticeship as the gas licencces are now an apprenticehsip?

You have to have a head letter from your employer stating that you worked 4000 hours with G2 and 500 on equipment 400000 and up. Also this letter has to be signed up by a G1 fitter who you worked your 500 hours with. If you are in Toronto, I suggest you take G1 course. George Brown college offers this course. Good luck!

I believe the MTCU apprenticeship program only applies to the G2-T.

4. A person may attempt to challenge the Gas Technician 1 or the Oil Burner Technician 1 examinations only if:

a) the individual holds a valid Gas Technician 2 or Oil Burner Technician 2 respectively.

b) the individual can provide documentation detailing 4000 hours of accumulated experience as a Gas Technician 2 or an Oil Burner Technician 2, of which a minimum of 500 hours are on systems larger than 400,000 Btuh or 7 U.S. gallons per hour respectively under direct supervision. The name, certificate number and signature of the supervising certificate holder must be provided.

I took this pre- gas technician 1 course almost two years and get my 500hr commerical equivalency.Then I took the regular gas technician 1 course shortly afterwards.

I have been working  as G2 since last 6 years mostly on the residential application,I am wondering how is the job prospects for G-1 ticket holder bcoz i been browsing the jobs for G-1 holder,but dont seems to be much there.
