Hi

A bit of advice needed.

My eldest son has started his G2 at college two nights a week, having previously passed his G3 at the same establishment.
They have a different teacher this time and  his methods are worrying at least a few of the guy's.
The hours are six until ten, this week for example he started late, although he was seen at least thirty minutes before the start time and finished at seven fifty. They were given a test paper and then talked through it. Should it not be the other way around ?
Is there a 'system' or 'method' that they should follow or is it off the hoof/ make it up as you go along?
One of the guy's has asked for a refund, which was turned down.
It take a lot of time, effort and money on the part of these lad's and the methods are not filling them with confidence.
Can anyone tell me if any organisation responsible regarding the training methods?
I have not named the college, as I am sure they generally do a good job.
Should we approach the college? Or how do we go about it?

Any thought's

when i was in school the common thought throughout the class was how early is this guy gonna finish teaching so we can get the f out of here.  The teacher may be finishing really early because he knows the class wants him to be done early.

In my 3 years of schooling I learned a lot, but I learned more in my first month out in the field than I did in 3 years of school, so I wouldn't worry too much about it, the piece of paper the schooling gets you is really just to get your foot in the door somewhere when you're looking for your first job. and thats where the real learning takes place.

My schooling was 2yrs at a trades school. My teacher was very thorough with all our teachings. We did alot of book work and practical assignments. We learned quite a bit in a short time. I have also learned that what you learn in school is not what happens in the feild. Their are however codes and rules that must be followed. If you are really upset on how things are going you should go speak to the director of the trades at the college and voice your views. Hope this helps.

I wouldn't worry about it too much, my school was similar. As was mentioned, you do your real learning once you get out in the field. School was good for learning the codebook, but didn't teach much by way of how things really go in the field.
