313A apprenticeship help

Looking for advice

Registered for my 313A apprenticeship this week. Sponsor has documented my hours etc 10 plus years in the field. Apprenticeship office is unable to use my college diploma from Fleming HVAC program for any years of exemptions in the schooling component. Apprenticeship office has suggested I take the exemption test for 1st and 2nd year. 155.00 per test- and can complete the test at any Ontario college. Wondering if anyone has advice on what material to expect on the exemption test- Not looking for the test itself, just a good starting point.

If they have 10+ years on file, the college shouldn't be needed, right?

I know nothing about these places or the practice exam. Just saw them way of google.

Level 1 and level 2 of the 313A and 313D are the same. This site has practice for the 313D.

The OCOT website has the training standard for both 313A and 313D, have a look at those.

Thanks everyone for the heads up; Yes I know with 10 plus years I don't need the schooling, but not a great test writer and would rather the review before taking 313A exam!

I'd have to disagree, there.
Even with 10 years in the field, knowing the theory is still important.

I think what tenletters may have been implying is that, with 10 yrs experience, you may be able to challenge the CofQ. The Ministry doesn't like it, and it's not easy. Have a look at Himark's pre-exam course (himark.ca).

Yes I know with 10 plus years I don't need the schooling, but not a great test writer and would rather the review before taking 313A exam!

I meant that schooling is not required as a prerequisite to being able to write the test. The OP initial post made it seem so.

It's 100% a good idea to take a prep course before doing the 313a course because I hear it's a pretty hard one.

Since you are now a registered apprentice, I believe the option to challenge is no longer available.

I would assume this email is from your training consultant and they are the ones that determine credit hours. Going to school for the 3 levels would not necessarily be a bad thing, you'll be surprised how much theory you don't know (I'm not saying you're a bad technician).

Centennial College, where I am, offers day release apprenticeship training where you go 1 day a week instead of every day for 8 weeks. If it's the same setup as the the 313d, you can still challenge after registering as an apprentice.

They actually recommend if you plan on challenging to register as an apprentice while you continue to work so you will be working legally.
