Not cooling

Team, I need a little bit of help to troubleshoot my AC issues. When it gets hot, the AC stops cooling and sometimes freezes up. My father used to be an HVAC tech, but it was a long while ago and his health is not up to par to help me. He did let me borrow his gauges and R410A. What I know so far has been learned from watching the YouTube videos and reading articles. The system has R410A.

I had two different HVAC companies looking at the issue. The first company said that the condenser is leaking.... added some freon and left. The same thing happened again within about few months when it started getting warmer outside. The second company came out and said that the evaporator coil is leaking air. They used a digital meter to detect leaks in the coil, as I watched them do it.

I went ahead and hooked up the gauges and attaching the picture. It reflects the pressure at 85deg F. Does it look too low? Should it read about 125psi and about 42deg c? If so, does it mean that its low on freon?

For now, I just want to be able to add som freon to keep the system going in order to figure out how to properly troubleshoot the cause and see how it can be repaired.

Thank you SO MUCH for your time in advance.

You need to calculate the indoor temperature and wet bulb.  Then we can charge the system according to the required superheat or subcooling.  I would just bring the low side up to 120 PSIG and that will keep you above freezing.  You want a 15F difference between the supply air and return air temperatures at the indoor coil.

If they found a leak on the indoor coil then that's what you have to replace.

Way I understood, the problem has already been diagnosed. Leaking evaporator coil?

I guess you just want to add gas into the system for the time being. Seems like you already have some information to do this.

If you have a confirmed leak evap coil then it needs to be replaced as the system will discharge quickly

Don't add Freon into your 410a system like you want to .Your looking for trouble if you do

Yashax, I would get a legit A/C tech to come in (this isn't something a dyier should be doing). You most definitely have low charge. Its not called freon anymore, but 410A refrigerant (for your system). There is no point in adding more refrigerant to a leaking system. Get your evaporator (indoor coil) replaced and make sure that a proper leak check is conducted, pressure tested, vacuumed and recharged.

Ditto...in Canada it's illegal to add refrigerant without fixing the leak (not to mention, not very smart).
