So true. So glad to be working for a commercial company that doesn't bother with this nonsense. No requirement in trying to sell anything. No satisfaction and score card sheet to make the customer fill out at the end of the job and hovering over them to give you a high score when they don't really know if you did a good job or not. No request for Google reviews.
The best way to become a good tech is simply taking time to learn for yourself and make sure you get with a company that can give you enough steady work hours year round (no guarantee for most). Stay away from working for small contractors where you'll just be a helper. In those situations it's mostly about getting in and out as fast as possible.

What area were you in and did they try to teach you, "chase the rust?"

Reliance fitter came to fix our rented tank and interacted my furnace because there was no tag and I told him I put it in.  I took his infraction and filled it out and on the corrective action taken? I wrote: Furnace was installed by current home owner who is a licensed g1.  Handed back and said "you may as well just fax it in"!

What was it he wrote up? All it really can be is a pressure tag is missing I guess.

Yes no tag and try to say I was unqualified before he found out I was a g1.  Legally a home owner can do whatever they want in their own house, but insurance always has a problem with it.
